This delicious Halloween dirt cups recipe is made without Cool Whip or instant pudding mix for a healthier take on this classic Halloween dessert. These spooky treats are so customizable and are a perfect option for your Halloween party!

Ingredients

  • 4 very ripe avocados
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup plus two tablespoons milk (or milk alternative)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoon oreo cookie crumbs
  • Gummy worms and/or pumpkin candies

Instructions

  • Place the avocados in a food processor and blend on high until the avocado is broken down and mostly smooth.
  • Add the remaining ingredients and continue to blend on high, scraping down the sides of the food processor with a spatula, until the pudding mixture is smooth and creamy.
  • Taste and adjust according to personal preference. You may wish to add more milk if you want the pudding to be a thinner consistency, more maple syrup if you'd like it to be sweeter or more cocoa powder if you want it to be richer in flavor.
  • Place 2 heaping tablespoons of pudding mixture into each of the 6 cups. Top the pudding layer with 1 tablespoon oreo cookie crumbs to form the "dirt." Equally divide the remaining pudding among each of the 6 cups and top each cup with 1 more tablespoon of oreo cookie crumbs.
  • Decorate with a few gummy worms and/or candy pumpkins, if desired. Serve immediately or store in the fridge for later.

Notes

  • Choose very ripe avocados as they will have a creamier consistency. Under-ripe avocados will lead to a chunky pudding, which isn't very pleasant to eat. Blend the avocados really well before adding the other ingredients to make sure the pudding is smooth and luxurious.
  • Tweak the ingredients to your taste. Add more maple syrup or extra cacao powder as needed.
  • Instead of storebought cookie crumbs, use some of this healthy chocolate granola or finely chopped dark chocolate.
  • Look for low-sugar gummy worms to reduce the sugar content in these fancy dirt and worms dessert cups.
