Whether you call it eggs in a nest, egg in the hole, or something else, this Heart Egg Toast is a fun twist on a classic that's perfect for your Valentine's Day breakfast! The egg bakes into the heart-shaped hole in the bread for a festive, fun breakfast your kids will want again and again. You just need a cookie cutter to make this special breakfast any time!

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 4 slices of whole grain bread
  • Butter or oil
  • Sprinkle of cheese (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet or square baking pan with parchment paper. Brush some oil or spread some butter on each slice of bread. Take a large heart cookie cutter and cut out in the center of the bread. Place the bread and cutout in the oven for 5 minutes to toast it.
  • Carefully crack an egg into each cutout shape. Either leave egg as is for a runny yolk (only suitable for kids over the age of 5*), or give it a quick whisk for a firmer yolk. Add a sprinkle of cheese or other toppings, if desired. Place the cutout back on top of the egg. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until egg is cooked through. Serve warm.
