Why We Love These Healthy Pizza Christmas Trees

  • Extremely easy to make: These mini pizzas have a very short list of ingredients! To make them as simple as possible, just grab a bag of premade dough at the store or try my 3-ingredient yogurt pizza dough recipe that doesn’t require any rising! Once the dough is cut out, it takes just a few minutes to add the toppings before you pop them in the oven.
  • Kid-friendly holiday meal: Since these pizzas are so tasty, you could easily serve them as a special family meal on Christmas Eve or offer them as a kid-friendly option during the holiday season. Eating consistent meals will help stabilize your kids’ moods, which can be especially helpful around the holidays! This option also includes some extra veggies, and you can use whole wheat dough for extra fiber.
  • Endlessly customizable: Although this version calls for peppers and optional pepperoni for holiday colors, the Christmas tree shape is the most important part! Use whichever toppings your little ones like to make these Christmas tree mini pizzas just right. They can also be served as a healthier entree, an easy appetizer, or a festive snack!

Ingredient Notes

Ingredients required for mini Christmas tree pizzas.
  • Pizza dough: Either make your own or use store-bought pizza dough. Whole wheat is a great way to add a little extra fiber to fill those tummies.
  • Pizza sauce: Use the pizza sauce of your choice. I prefer to use a lower sodium and low-sugar tomato sauce whenever possible. Try this low-sodium pizza sauce if you want a homemade option!
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese: This is a classic choice for pizza since it melts so well. Add a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese for extra flavor!
  • Bell peppers: Finely dice red, green, and yellow bell peppers. They should be very small.
  • Mini pepperoni: This is optional, but thinly sliced pepperoni looks like little ornaments! We used mini turkey pepperoni, but sausage crumbles or olives would work, too.
  • Christmas tree cookie cutterThis is the most important part! If you can’t find a cutter, you can try to cut out the dough with a paring knife instead, but it will be a little more complicated.

Christmas Tree Veggie Pizza – Step-by-Step Instructions

  2. On a floured surface, roll out pizza dough to ½-inch thickness. Use a Christmas tree-shaped cookie cutter to cut Christmas trees out of the dough. Lay each tree on the lined baking sheet. Continue to roll out the dough and repeat, until all of the dough has been used.

  4. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until lightly browned and cheese is melted. Serve warm.

RECIPE TIPS

  • Use your preferred dough for this recipe. You can use store-bought whole wheat, regular pizza dough or this 3-ingredient pizza dough with Greek yogurt! Note: I found the homemade dough was less finicky to work with and cut shapes out of since it was easier to roll out and cut shapes from.
  • If you use store-bought dough, the Christmas trees will rise more and become more puffy. I recommend rolling out the dough slightly thinner if using store-bought so that you can still tell they’re Christmas trees once baked. You’ll also need to increase the baking time to 15-20 minutes, or until the dough is cooked through.
  • I chose to arrange the peppers in little lines to resemble Christmas lights, but you can scatter them around the pizza as well.
  • Be sure to flour the surface that you’re working on to prevent the dough from sticking. You can also dip the cookie cutter into a bit of flour to make it easier to cut out the shapes.
  • The number of pizzas you get will depend on the size of your cookie cutter.
  • The baking time will depend on the size of your Christmas tree cutter. If it’s a really large cutter (or you make a large pizza instead), you may need to add a few extra minutes (or more). Just watch the cheese. When it turns golden brown, they’re usually ready!
  • Bake in a preheated oven. The pizza dough will get the best rise and crust in a hot oven. Let the oven preheat for at least 20 minutes before you start baking.

Recipe FAQs

Can I use other shapes to make Christmas pizzas?

Absolutely! This Christmas tree pizza recipe is super cute, but you could just as easily make an ornament, Santa, snowmen, reindeer, and more. Just grab the cookie cutters and have some fun!

What other vegetables would work well?

Feel free to get creative with this recipe! I like to arrange the bell peppers like colorful little ornaments or a tri-colored garland, but you can easily place them in different ways.

You could also cut long thin strips of pepper to add as a bold red garland going around the tree! This would be especially pretty with red bell peppers. Diced olives or halved cherry tomatoes would look lovely as ornaments, too. Red onion would be delicious too, but it might not be a hit with the younger crowd.

How do you make a mini Christmas tree pizza?

It’s pretty simple. Roll out your pizza dough and cut it out with a Christmas tree-shaped pizza cutter. Add some pizza sauce, cheese, and your favorite pizza toppings, then bake. That’s really all it takes! It’s a super simple recipe perfect for adding a festive spirit to any holiday party.

Storage Guidelines

  • Store leftover pizza in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. To reheat, either microwave for about 1 minute or bake them in a toaster oven at 350 for 5-7 minutes. You can also freeze the leftover cooked pizzas for up to 3 months if needed.

Serving Suggestions

This Christmas pizza can be served in several different ways. It’s the perfect little snack or appetizer for a holiday party, but I like to serve it as a kid-friendly lunch or dinner. Pair them with these other recipes to make a complete meal.

Recipe Variations

  • Air fryer Christmas tree pizzas: Prepare your Christmas tree mini pizzas, then bake them following the steps in this healthy mini pizzas recipe!
  • Vegetarian Christmas pizzas: Skip the pepperoni and add extra veggies for a vegetarian option. You can also use non-dairy cheese for a vegan dish!
  • Use puff pastry: Replace the pizza dough with a crispy, flaky puff pastry crust! Follow the same steps as normal, but bake according to the directions on the package. Be careful to watch the pizzas in the oven to avoid burning the flaky crust.
